Mardi Himal Trek
Iconic Expedition

Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trek is an emerging trek that has gained a lot of attention from fellow travelers these days. It has been an alternative to those who would opt for Ghorepani Poon hill trek. It is a next best alternative of Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek where you can admire the glories of Annapurna region in a less crowded environment. Mardi Himal Trek is a beautiful escape to the Annapurna region of Nepal. It starts from the foothills of the Annapurna massif and takes you to the Mardi Himal Base Camp, a camp that lies under the fascinating Macchapuchhre Himal. On the way, you pass charming villages, lush hills, farmlands and forests.

There are very few lodges opened in this area, the route being a newly opened route for trekking. But the outstanding views that this trek offers is far more worthy than any treks in Annapurna; it accomplished in a similar time frame. Several hours walk up and down, along the villages, farmlands, and forests takes you to the Mardi Himal Base Camp.

The route offers some impressive views of mountains in Annapurna ranges. The ranges of Annapurna South, Macchapucchre Himal, Mardi Himal, Hiunchuli etc. that rise tall one over the other looks spectacular.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Arrive at the airport in Kathmandu! You will be received by our representative and transferred to a hotel in Kathmandu. Check in to the hotel and spend rest of the time on your own. Our representative will brief you about your plan ahead. Stay at the hotel for the night. (Breakfast included)

Early in the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and escorted to the tourist bus station. We will catch a tourist bus that will take us to Pokhara in around six hours. We drive along a lush landscape full of countryside scenery along the highway road. We drive along the Trishuli river admiring the scenic route to Pokhara. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. Check in and enjoy your evening on your own. (Breakfast included)

Early in the morning, after breakfast, you will be driven to Phedi from where our real trekking journey starts. We start walking along the lush villages and farmlands to Pothana. In around four hours, we will reach Pothana. We stay at a guesthouse in Pothana for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Today, we start our walk up to a place popular as Pitam Deurali. From here, you leave the main trail that leads to Annapurna Sanctuary and continue through an isolated path that goes through dense forests of rhododendron, oak and hemlock. We walk through the jungle until we reach a place called Kokar. We stop at a basic lodge at Kokar for the evening. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Kokar, also known as the forest camp, is the starting point of our day today. After breakfast, we continue ascending through the forest. As we ascend, we can notice a slow change in the vegetation around. We walk until we reach the Low camp. There are two basic lodges in the low camp that offer some majestic and close views of Mt. Macchpucchre. We stay at the low camp for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

After an hour's walk from the low camp, we reach a place with almost no trees. On the west side, we can see some fabulous views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. As we march forward towards the main ridge of Mardi Himal, we can see grassy and bushy areas everywhere. If lucky, you can encounter some colorful Danphe (national bird of Nepal) in this section. We walk until we reach the High Camp. From the high camp, we can applaud some wonderful views of Hiunchuli, Annapurna South, Macchapucchre Himal and other mountains. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Today, we wake up early to catch the wonderful views of sunrise amidst the mountains. It takes around three hours for us to reach the view point at an elevation of 4200 meters. From here, you can catch some awesome snaps of the Annapurna Sanctuary and panoramic views of the Annapurna massif. After the overwhelming views of mountains in the Annapurna region from the view point, we return back to the high camp for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Today, we initiate our return journey but via a different route. We return back through the village of Siding that completes a circuit journey from the low camp of the trek. Siding is a traditional and beautiful village that is still untouched by the flow of tourists and modernization. People live a very simple life and are engaged in agriculture for livelihood. We stay at a very simple lodge in Siding village for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

We continue our walk from Siding and descend down to Lumre through the villages of Kalimati and Ghalel. From Lumle, we catch a jeep that will bring us back to Pokhara. We stay at a hotel in Pokhara for the night. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Leaving Pokhara, we drive back along the same scenic route to Kathmandu city. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the hotel. Check in and enjoy your evening on your own. (Breakfast and lunch included)

We conclude our journey today. You will be driven to airport for your journey ahead. (Breakfast included)

Client Reviews

"I was travelling solo as a woman and had some concerns. They were completely unfounded. The team was professional, the other trekkers were wonderful, and the mountain was everything I had hoped for."

Yuki Tanaka

Langtang Valley, 2023

"I've trekked with four different operators. It's difficult to put into words how much better this experience was. The logistics were invisible — everything just worked. I'll be back for Annapurna next year."

James Ekator

Annapurna Circuit, 2024

"We had done treks before, but this was different. The itinerary was thoughtful, the acclimatisation days were genuinely restful, and our guide knew every family along the route. I felt safe the entire time."
