What is the route of travel?

Gonja La Pass Trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubensi. From here, it goes all the way along with the beautiful forests and local villages to Langtang village. We hike up to Kyanjin Gompa and head towards Gonja La pass. From the pass, we can get some astonishing views of mountains and wild landscapes in the Langtang region. We pass Nyengang Kharka and high camp to Gonja La. From the La Pass, we descend down to Melamchi Bazaar via the charming villages of Sermathang and Tarke Gyang. Finally, Gonja La Pass trekking concludes with a drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 1:- Welcome to Kathmandu

Arrive at the airport in Kathmandu! You will be received by our representative and transferred to a hotel in Kathmandu. Check in to the hotel and spend rest of the time on your own. Our representative will brief you about your plan ahead. Stay at the hotel for the night. (Breakfast included)

Day 2:- Kathmandu sightseeing

Today you will be headed to the UNESCO listed world heritage sites in Kathmandu. After your breakfast, your guide will receive you at the hotel and transfer you to the Kathmandu Durbar Square. Here, you can explore the historical monuments, temples and palaces built during the medieval period in Nepal. It is a fine piece of art, culture and history. After exploring the artistic beauty of those palaces, temples and museum, you will be headed to Swayambhunath stupa, a reflection a Buddhist religion at a top of a hill that offers a picturesque view of Kathmandu city as a whole. Next on the sightseeing journey is the ancient and popular Pashupatinath temple. It is a temple of Lord Shiva that holds high value amongst the Hindu pilgrims. We wander around the temple, explore its religious value and head towards Boudhanath stupa. We enjoy our evening around the stupa placed on the three layered mandala and wrap up our journey for the day. You will be dropped at the hotel for the night. (Breakfast included)

Day 3:- Kathmandu to Shabrubeshi

Early in the morning, you will be picked up at your hotel and transferred to your ride for a drive ahead to Syabrubensi. It takes us around seven hours for us to reach Syabrubensi. On the way, we pass scenic countryside landscape, villages, farmlands and get some glimpse of mountains. We pass Trishuli river and drive ahead to Dhunche. From here, we further drive until we reach Syabrubensi. We stay at a guesthouse in Syabrubensi for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 4:- Shabrubeshi to Lama Hotel

Today, we start our actual trekking journey. We have our breakfast at the guesthouse and start walking along the trail to Lama Hotel. We pass beautiful forests of rhododendron and oak along a river and continue our walk to Bamboo. If lucky, we may encounter some species of faunas here, especially pandas in between the forests of bamboo. We further walk and pass the hanging hives of bees, birds and other wildlife in the forests to Lama Hotel. Upon arrival, we rest at our room in a guesthouse. We spend our night in the guesthouse. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 5:- Lama Hotel to Langtang valley

We leave Lama hotel and start ascending up steep through the forests of oaks, hemlocks, maple and rhododendron. We continue our walk until we reach Langtang khola. From here, we start getting some beautiful glimpses of Mt. Langtang Lirung amidst the gaps between the trees of the forests. We follow the trail and pass the pastures, meadows and Tamang villages on the route. Finally, we cross a stream and climb up along the water mills and prayer flags to large settlement of Langtang. We open up to the beautiful Langtang valley that is adorned with beautiful flat roofed Tibetan style houses and farmlands. We stop at a guesthouse in Langtang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 6:- Langtang village to Kyanjin Gompa

Our trail winds up through the village of Langtang to a ridge with a large chorten on it. The trail further climbs up with some fascinating views of mani walls. We cross a stream and enter into the village of Mundu. We further cross few streams along the way to Kyanjin gompa. As we move ahead, we will be blessed with an impressive view of icefall flowing down from the peaks of Kimshung and Langtang Lirung. As you reach gompa, you will be blessed some astounding views of muntains in Langtang range. You can expect to get some spectacular views of Langtang lirung, Tsergo Ri, Kyangin Ri, Ganja La, Langshisa Ri, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Kangla peak and Yala peak. We stay at a guesthouse for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 7:- Hike up to Kyangin Ri

Today, we spend our day exploring the Langtang valley. Early in the morning, we visit the gompa and head towards the famous cheese factory in Langtang village. If interested, you may buy it as a souvenir back to your home country. Then we start climbing up to the highest point of our Langtang valley trek i.e. Kyanjin Ri. From this point, you can get some breathtaking views of Langtang Lirung, Langtang range, Yansa Tsenji and Kinshung. After spending few time on the Ri, we return back to gompa for overnight stay. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 8:- Trek to Nyengang Kharka

Today, we wake up early and continue our journey towards Nyengang Kharka. Our walk for the day extends to around six hours along an isolated path with no villages or settlements around. The trail first descends and slowly ascends up via a path with spare vegetation. As you reach Nyengang kharka, it’s an open area with grasslands with no traces of lodges around. Hence, we stay at a tented camp for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 9:- Trek to High Camp

We are near the exciting and challenging days of our trip as we take a trail with steep slopes, rocks and glaciers. At first we make an ascent up the rocky glacier that can be quite strenuous but as you climb up, the heart pleasing views of Langtang Lirung, Tserko Ri and other peaks are worth it. We climb up to the high camp today. We set up a tent and stay there for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 10:- Trek to Ganja La pass

Today is going to be the toughest days of our journey as we climb up to the Ganja La pass. It is considered to be one of the strenuous climbs up on a rocky moraine that is covered by snow throughout the year. We climb up through the boulders and pass the beautiful lakes on the way. As we climb up the pass, we will be blessed with some stunning views of mountains and Langtang region. We stay at the tented camps for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 11:- Trek to Dukpu

Leaving Ganja La pass, we continue descending down along a ridge through the forests and grasslands to Dukpu with beautiful views of mountains on sight. As we reach Dukpu, we set up our tents and stay there for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 12:- Trek to Tarke Gyang

Continuing with our journey, we descend down until we reach a pass. From the pass, we open up to some spectacles of snowcapped mountains. We further walk downhill through the forests of pine and rhododendron to the village of Tarke Gyang. Here, we can interact with the local Sherpa people who are considered to be very hostile. We stay at a guesthouse in Tarke Gyang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 13:- Rest day at Tarke Gyang

We had some tough time climbing up the pass in past few days, therefore, we stay at Tarke Gyang today to take some rest and explore around the village. At the village, we can visit a gompa and explore around to get some insights on people, their culture, custom, tradition and lifestyle. We stay at guesthouse in Tarke Gyang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 14:- Trek to Sermathang

After a wonderful day in Tarke Gyang, we continue our walk along a small forest that offers some stunning views of villages in Helambu region. We open up to a wide valley and continue until we reach the village of Sermathang. At the village, we can see wide influence of Drukpa Kagyu Buddhism. We stay at a guesthouse in Sermathang for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 15:- Trek to Melamchi bazaar

Early in the morning, after breakfast at Sermathang, we continue descending towards the village of Kakani. Kakani is a beautiful village placed on a hill top. From the village, we further descend down to Dubachaur which is another small village in that region. We pass the fields of paddy along the Indrawati river and continue our walk to cross a bridge over the river. Finally, we reach Melamchi Bazaar which is popular for the fresh and local delicious fish varieties. We stay at a guesthouse in Melamchi Bazaar for the night. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included)

Day 16:- Drive back to Kathmandu

We wake up early, take our breakfast and catch a bus that will drive us back to Kathmandu. It takes us only few hours to reach Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel Check into the hotel and take rest for the remaining time of the day. (Breakfast and lunch included)

Day 17:- Departure day

We conclude our journey today. You will be driven to airport for your journey ahead. (Breakfast included)
