Cho La Pass Route!

The Cho La Pass route commences after scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla from where your walking journey continues to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorakshep, and finally, Thangnak via Cho La Pass and then to Gokyo valley. The route up to Cho La passes many attractive villages such as Chaurikharka, Phakding, Monjo, Banker, and Jorasle. It crosses through centuries-old monasteries, local museums, gompas, chortens, Mani-stone walls, and several suspension bridges with the Himalayas in the background before reaching Namche Bazaar. Namche gives you the first ever insight of beautiful Himalayas and the golden sunrise and sunset views over towering peaks, the view will surely take your heart away. Monjo is the entrance point for the popular Sagarmatha National Park that encounter you with endangered Himalayan birds like the golden eagle, snow pigeon, Red-billed and Yellow-billed coughs, animals like leopards, mountain goat, pheasants, and flowers like rhododendron, Mongolia, juniper, blue pine, hemlock, etcetera.

Day 1:- Arrival in Nepal via Kathmandu International Airport

On your arrival at Tribhuvan (Kathmandu) International Airport, one of our team member will welcome you and drop you to the hotel. After hotel check-in, take some rest with comfort at your room. Then, we will call you for introductory meeting with our team and tour guide at our office. At evening, we will offer you a welcome dinner in a Nepali restaurant with live cultural music and dance. If you have time, then do visit the lively Thamel Bazaar where you will meet like-minded people and see the attractive shopping centers.

Day 2:- Historical and Cultural Sites Visiting in Kathmandu and Trek Orientation

After morning breakfast, we will visit some of the popular historical and cultural sites in Kathmandu with our tour guide. These sites are Pashupatinath, Swayambunath, Boudhanath Stupa, and royal Kathmandu Durbar Square which are even listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites. You will see the unique ancient arts and architecture crafted in the buildings of these sites. Pashupatinath is the famous temple among the Hindu followers whereas, Swayambunath and Boudhanath are mostly visited by Buddhist followers.

Returning from the one-day short trip, we would recommend you to check your trekking essentials and climbing gears. You are free to ask any questions regarding trekking in Nepal on tonight’s trek orientation. If you lack any of the equipment, you can buy it in Thamel area!

Day 3:- Flight to Lukla (2,828m/9,279ft) and Trek to Phakding (2,780m/9,121ft) Flight Time: 35 minutes and Walking Duration: 3 to 4 hours

A scenic mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla will take you between the snow-clad Himalayas and above the lush green terrains. Reaching the Tenzing Hillary Airport (Lukla) which is surrounded by Himalayas, we will meet remaining trekking crew and will take rest for some time. After having delicious Nepali cuisine, trek to Phakding will begin through the picturesque Himalayan setting and along the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. The trail pass through the Chaurikharka village. As you reach Phakding, explore the beautiful Phakding village and nearby ancient monastery.

Day 4:- Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m/11,287ft) from Phakding Walking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Today’s trek is towards the gateway to Everest region that will pass through the Monjo village. Monjo is the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park where you have the chance to encounter Himalayan wildlife and vegetation. Crossing the Dudh Koshi River over several suspension bridges, you reach Benkar village where you will enjoy the views of Mt. Thamserku. Walking down to the hill decorated with rhododendron and pine trees, the trail then passes through the Jorasle village; the last village until Namche. Finally, after crossing the Hillary suspension bridge, you arrive at Namche; the lively town in Everest region. Enjoy the views of Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Kusum Khanguru (6,367m), Mt. Kongde (6,011m), Mt Tawache (6,367m), and surrounding mountains from Namche. Also, the view of sunrise is amazing even from the window of your room.

Day 5:- First Acclimatization Day in Namche Bazaar

The first acclimatization day or rest day of this trek. Namche is popular stop for many trekkers to acclimatize themselves before heading towards Mt. Everest. Hike up to Everest View Hotel or Syangboche or Thame keeps you physically active and familiarize you with higher elevation. Also, the views of mountains, landscapes, and Namche is adorable from these points. Roaming around the market, you will enjoy internet service. You will find Bakery café, shops, restaurants, and ATMs at the market area.

Day 6:- Trek to Tengboche (3,860m/12,632ft) from Namche Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Tengboche situated nearly about 4,000 elevation offers you the magnificent views of Mt. Nuptse (7,855m), Mt. Pumori (7,145m), Mt. Ama Dablam (6,856m) and Mt. Thamserku (6,723m). The trail goes gradually down up to Kyangjumpa and eventually reaches Sansa from where the trail passes through the rhododendron, pine forests, strings of prayer flags, suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, Phunki Thenga and finally, reach Tengboche. On the way to Tengboche, encounter the wild animals like pheasant, Himalayan Thar, musk deer. Explore the village and take full rest!

Day 7:- Trek to Dingboche (4,350m/14,272ft) from Tengboche Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Before continuing our trek to Dingboche, we will visit famous Tengboche monastery residing at the hill. Himalayas at its back, Tengboche monastery is the ancient and largest monastery in the Khumbu region that offers you a fascinating views of mountains and sunrise. We will then trek towards Dingboche following upper trail via Pangboche village. Pangboche village is home to many Sherpa people. The trail passes through the several chortens, Mani walls, and small traditional villages before entering into the Imja valley while following through the Lobuche village. From here, we will descend to Imja Khola then, a moderate climb will lead us to Dingboche. Dingboche offers you the sight of fertile landscapes.

Day 8:- Second Acclimatization Day in Dingboche

A healthy morning breakfast with fresh weather will make your day wonderful! Dingboche offers you the vistas of three highest mountains on the Earth; Mt. Lhotse (8,516m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), and Mt. Cho Oyu (8,201m). Short hiking around the place will offer you stunning views of mountains and landscapes. Hiking towards the west, you will enjoy the stunning views of Mt. Cholaste, Mt. Lobuche East Peak, and Mt. Taboche. Stay active throughout the day with sufficient rest too. Enjoy dinner with your team!

Day 9:- Trek to Lobuche (4,910m/16,109ft) from Dingboche Walking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Today’s trail up to Lobuche includes moderate climb up to Duglha after passing the Khumbu Khola valley, ascend through the strewn slope to Chupki Lhara, and then descend to Khumbu glacier moraine to reach Lobuche. The trail passes through an array of stones for the past Everest climbers (Scott Fisher and Babu Dhiri Sherpa) with prayer flags. Relish the view of several mountains such as Pumori, Lobuche East Peak, Lobuche West Peak, Lingtren, Mahalangur Himal, Khumbutse, etc. from the elevation of 4,910 meters.

Day 10:- Trek to Gorakshep (5,180m/16,995ft) and Hike to Everest Base Camp (5,364m/17,600ft) Walking Duration: 3 to 4 hours and 2 to 3 hours

Following through the beautiful Gorakshep Lake, today’s trail follows through the rocky dunes, moraine, and streams to reach the Everest Base Camp. A quite difficult trail up to 5,180 meters elevation rewards you with the majestic views of Mt. Everest right before you. From here, you will enjoy the vistas of Khumbu glacier, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Pumori, and many surrounding mountains. Witnessing the beauty of Everest from the closest point is a dream of many! After exploring around the base camp and capturing the beautiful vistas of the snow-covered Himalayas, we will walk downward to Lobuche following the same trail.

Day 11:- Hike to Kala Patthar (5,545m/18,193ft) and Trek to Dzonglha (4,830m/15,847ft) Walking Duration: 2 to 3 hours and 4 to 5 hours

The day to relish the more beautiful and panoramic views of world’s highest mountain; Mt. Everest! After an early morning breakfast, we will start our trek to Kala Patthar to witness the amazing sunrise view. Not only the 360-degree view of Mount Everest, Kala Patthar will reward with the vistas of many other mountains like Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Pumori, Changtse, Nuptse, Lingtren. Descending to lower elevation via Lobuche, we will reach Dzonglha.

Day 12:- Trek to Thangnak (4,700m/15,420ft) via Cho La Pass (5,420m/17,782ft) Walking Duration: 6 to 7 hours

Today’s trek begins through a branch extending westward from Dzonglha. At first, the trail descend to a basin across which strolls a babbling stream covered with ice at places and then goes slowly uphill until we arrive at the Cho La Pass. The trail is tough and little tricky up to the top and you need to alert as the rocks can be glazed by ice. At the top, you will see prayer flags, the view of beautiful Cho La Lake, Mt. Ama Dablam in its pyramidal incarnation presides over a range of mountains, and Mt. Cholatse. After enjoying the breathtaking scenery of majestic peaks in all direction, we will walk downhill to reach Thangnak.

Day 13:- Trek to Gokyo (4,750m/15,584ft) from Thangnak Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

Stepping out of the Thangnak, we will see the fabulous views of mountain. Walking up and down, we will cross the Ngozumpa glacier; the longest glacier in the Himalayas. After some walking for some time, we reach the other side of the other side of the glacier where we see the view of the second of the six Gokyo Lakes with mountain in its back. Here, you will encounter the series of the Gokyo Lakes. Finally, we reach Gokyo valley; the home to several beautiful, blue, and green lakes.

Day 14:- Exploration Day in Gokyo and Climb to Gokyo Ri (5,357m)

Gokyo Ri is the small peak above the Gokyo Lake which offers the panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cholaste, Mt. Tawache, Mt. Cho Oyu, and other surrounding peaks including the view of Nangpa La; the old trade route into Tibet. Within two hours of walking, you will reach Gokyo Ri. Returning from there, explore around the Gokyo valley and take full rest for the rest of the day.

Day 15:- Trek to Dole (4,200m/13,780ft) from Gokyo Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

The trek continues via Machermo to reach Dole. The trail crosses the metal bridge over the Dudh Koshi Lakes, follows through the thorny alpine scrub to picturesque ridges to reach Dole. On the way, you will witness the views of the north face of Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Thamserku, Mt. Kangtega and the blue-green Dudh Koshi Lakes.

Day 16:- Trek to Namche Bazaar from Dole Walking Duration: 4 to 5 hours

After having morning breakfast, we begin our trek towards uphill and then lower slopes of Khumbila that goes through the Dudh Koshi valley. Further trail climbs steeply to the settlement of Mong La from where an ascending path through a rhododendron forests leads you to Dole. Witness the views of Mt. Khumjung and Himalayan wildlife on the way to Dole. Explore around the village and interact with people.

Day 17:- Trek to Lukla from Namche Walking Duration: 5 to 6 hours

Trekking back to Lukla, we will cross several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River, rhododendron forests, small Sherpa villages, and strings of prayer flags. Re-witnessing the mountain views, landscapes, and rivers we reach Lukla where our 19 long days trekking voyage ends.

Day 18:- Flight to Kathmandu Flight Duration: 35 minutes

Scenic flight over the beautiful landscapes and high Himalayas, we reach Kathmandu Domestic Airport. After arriving at the airport, one of our team member will drop you to the hotel and hotel check-in. Either take rest for rest of the day or roam around the capital city. Celebrate your accomplishment with the team! Enjoy Nepali cuisine!

Day 19:- Final Departure

After having breakfast, we will drop you to the Kathmandu International Airport. Your transfer will depend upon your flight schedule. Have a safe journey ahead! Take memories of the Himalayas with you and leave nothing!
